Facebook GMS Summit

Facebook holds an annual, internal Global Marketing Summit for their employees in their marketing and sales organization. The Jack Morton Agency, Facebook’s event experience agency, hired Lauk Haus to develop illustration concepts for the event. The theme for the annual conference was “Transform.” Different landscapes represent the transition of scenery as one embarks on a journey throughout the conference.

Overview & Process

My role was to develop 2-4 illustrative patterns that can be used for multiple branding applications such as logo applications, event collateral, and murals. I was provided with a color palette and moodboards. The creative direction was to create organic, loose shapes inspired by nature. To start, I decided to sketch out landscape scenes. My intention was to abstract elements from the scenes to create patterns and motifs. For the first sketch, I wanted to capture the lush and wild environment of the rainforest. In the second sketch, I wanted a mix of movement and stability. Cliffs and stacked rocks stand for balance and calm, with fluid, crashing waves in opposition.

Final Deliverables

After a round of feedback, I focused on aquatic environments. I abstracted elements from the scenes to create motifs that can be used to form patterns, adorn collateral, and add personality to the logo.
